If an engineer, an aircraft mechanic, a model, and a slacker with a dream got together you would get Yellowtieguy. Their freshman album entitled “Joy in the Mourning” is a combination of acoustic roots tossed in a frying pan of 90s alternative then seasoned with 70's riffs and upright bass. Daniel Hill, Mary Celeste, Jason McKinney, Ralf Madrigal fuse styles to create a truly unique album.
Yellow Tie Guy
Interview by Josh Rudderforth
MU: How did yellowtieguy come about?
Daniel: I was at a youth rally in North Carolina and there was a paster who called me out and referred to me as “The Guy in the Yellow Tie” It was a few years later that some people from another church recognized me as “The yellow tie guy.” It just kind of stuck. When I started playing music I started going by “The Yellow Tie Guy.”
MU: Ralf (Drums), how did you get involved with the band?
Ralf: I was stationed in Hawaii and got orders here ( Andrews AFB). I did not know any one and by chance met a guy who knew a guy. He had a yellow tie and a couple months later they had a gig in Philly and needed a drummer. We rehearsed a couple of times and that was it. It was a good mix and here I am.
MU: Jason, how did you get into the mix?
Jason: I was in a band that had broken up and I was working for a guy whose son was looking to start a band. I got to talking with Danny and saw that he was writing some stuff that I thought would be fun to work with and it kind of just went from there.
MU: How did you guys find Mary?
Mary: I have been playing with Danny the longest in the group. We met through some friends and got to talking about music and decided we needed to jam together. We started playing together with another group, kind of folk rock. It all kind of came together from there.
